Our efforts to Reduce Plastic Waste!
Many Scavenger creations require padding, filling, or firm backing as a part of the product. If you were to disassemble a bag, backpack, or brimmed hat, you would find the structure usually comes from plastic. Outdoor gear companies are having these non-biodegradable materials produced in bulk so they can mass-produce their products. We Scavengers reject those practices and instead use the plastic materials that we are already surrounded by!
What can you do with plastic?
Thicker plastics, such as yogurt and protein powder containers, are perfect for hat brims, and the firm backing in our bags. Thinner plastics are shredded and used as the ideal filling for our meditation cushions, a nearly identical substitute for the buckwheat hulls commonly used.
Where does the plastic come from?
Clean Up Projects! - Throughout the warmer months, our community of outdoor enthusiasts collects plastic trash they find abandoned on their adventures and explorations.
Community Collection and Donation - Scavenger SLC accepts plastics from community members as well as donations of damaged clothing and gear.
